JulyZerg, a famous and very successful pro player in both BW and SC2, was scouted out specifically for his high APM even though he seriously lacked game knowledge. Reputed as the most balanced RTS with infinite sandboxing capability, all it required were certain pros to come up with different ways to play the game before it just became a battle of who chose the right build path (to a point) and can execute it better through higher action per min (higher APM would compensate for choosing the "wrong" path).
However, after the release of a sandbox mode, this just would not be feasible anymore.Ī good example of this happening was in Starcraft: BW. New champions and game modes may spice things up a bit but in the professional scene a sandbox mode would enable people to reach the skill-ceiling VERY quickly.Ĭurrently, pros are able to get by through game knowledge even if they lack mechanically.
